Sahiwal (Correspondent Report):
Riphah International University has continued its humanitarian initiatives for flood-affected communities, marking the second phase of its relief campaign in the district of Jhang. Under this program, ration packs containing essential food items and daily-use supplies were distributed among hundreds of displaced families.
The relief activities were supervised by university officials, faculty members, and student volunteers who personally reached out to the affected areas. The aim was not only to provide immediate assistance but also to express solidarity with those enduring hardships caused by the recent floods.
Vice Chancellor of Riphah International University, Prof. Dr. Anees Ahmad, highlighted the institution’s commitment to community service. He said:
“Riphah International University is not just an academic institution; it is a movement committed to social responsibility, ethical values, and service to humanity. Our mission extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. We believe that when people are in distress, standing by them is our moral and religious obligation.”
Dr. Anees added that the university has integrated service to humanity as a core value within its organizational culture. This not only creates awareness among students about societal issues but also inspires them to become compassionate leaders and responsible citizens.
The relief drive is being carried out in multiple phases. In the first phase, Riphah teams distributed medical aid and food items in other affected regions. The second phase, currently ongoing in Jhang, focuses on providing ration packs to families that lost their homes and livelihoods. Future phases may also include medical camps, counseling services, and long-term rehabilitation projects.
Faculty members accompanying the teams emphasized that engaging students in such social projects helps them develop empathy, leadership qualities, and practical exposure to ground realities. Volunteers from different departments actively participated, packing and delivering aid to remote areas.
Community elders and local representatives appreciated the efforts of Riphah University, acknowledging that such contributions significantly ease the difficulties of flood survivors. They also called upon other educational institutions and welfare organizations to follow this model and play their role in national service.
This initiative is a continuation of Riphah’s broader vision of contributing towards the welfare of society, aligning with Islamic values of compassion (rehmat) and justice (adl). The university has announced that it will keep its doors open for collaborations with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders in order to expand the reach of its relief operations.
