The Department of English: Linguistics and Literature provides an interdisciplinary environment for the study of English language and literature. It combines linguistic theory, literary criticism, and applied language studies to explore how language shapes thought, culture, identity, and society. The department promotes critical thinking, research, creativity, and effective communication through rigorous academic programs and a commitment to academic excellence and cross-cultural understanding.
The BS English in Linguistics and Literature offers comprehensive study of both language and literature, covering areas such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and language acquisition, alongside British, American, Postcolonial, and World Literature. Through research projects, presentations, critical analysis, and practical activities, students develop strong analytical, research, communication, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in teaching, writing, editing, media, translation, research, and further academic study.
This is an undergraduate 4 years degree program for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of Language & Literature.
Dr. Sibtain Aslam is serving as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English Linguistics and Literature at Riphah International University, Sahiwal Campus. He holds a PhD in English and brings more than two decades of experience in English language teaching, teacher training, academic leadership, and educational administration. His academic qualifications include an MA TEFL, M.Ed., B.Ed., MA English from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, and an Advanced Diploma in Language and Literature from NUML, along with the ICELT from the University of Cambridge in association with the British Council.
Dr. Aslam has previously served as Head of the Department of English Linguistics and Literature at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lecturer in English at the University of Lahore, and Managing Director of Dar-e-Arqam Schools. He is also an HEC-approved PhD Supervisor. His research interests encompass Applied Linguistics, Stylistics, Discourse Analysis, Postcolonial Literature, Digital Humanities, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools into English language teaching and literary pedagogy. He has authored 25+ peer-reviewed publications and co-authored the book Words That Shape Worlds (Wah Academia Press, 2026).
Beyond academia, Dr. Aslam has made significant contributions to teacher professional development as an AFAQ Master Trainer, training more than 2,500 teachers across Pakistan in classroom management, lesson planning, pedagogical skills, and the practical integration of AI into English language teaching. His academic and professional work reflects a strong commitment to innovative pedagogy, teacher development, digital transformation in education, and the advancement of English language teaching in Pakistan.
The Department of Urdu at Riphah International University was established under the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities (FSS&H) with the vision of promoting Urdu language, literature, and research at national and international levels. The department is supported by a team of highly qualified faculty, including PhD and MPhil scholars, who bring with them rich academic expertise and a strong commitment to nurturing future researchers, writers, and educators.
Alongside developing a solid foundation in classical and modern Urdu studies, the department provides students with opportunities to engage in research projects, literary societies, seminars, and cultural activities, fostering both academic excellence and practical exposure.
